Money is the divine path to God

It must be said, following on from my previous blog - Money is the Root of all Evil - both statements are equally valid or true depending on your perspective. Somehow though this one just doesn't seem to ring true. To me that is. But then, my experience has shown this has not necessarily been the case for other people. Church ministers for example. Not that I have had any direct experience of these. Just anecdotal evidence provided by the viewing of American television!!!

It has taken me nearly 2 years to finish writing this part. Mainly because I have to concede that I probably don't agree with the premise: "Money is the divine path to God". Yet this has been and remains to be probably my biggest obstacle in defining or being clear about my own monetary beliefs.!!!

If money is simply a tool, a device or a means of exchange and it has no real or intrinsic value in itself. Then why should it matter if accumulating masses of wealth enables some people to experience their divine connection to God?

I believe the truth is it doesn't matter! It can be. It doesn't have to be but if it is simply a tool; a means to establish an end, like a spoon to pick up food to eat, then why would you need to worry about not having enough tools? Would a tool in itself prevent you from eating? Would having more or sophisticated tools enable you to eat more quickly and satisfactorily?

Perhaps...It could certainly ease and smooth the way in getting there!!! It could definitely do this but then it could also do the opposite. We have all probably heard the stories of people who won millions on the lottery only to see it all disappear or to fall out bitterly with family members and, in at least one case, I read of lately, die alone, inexplicably, unnoticed for days. In other words there can be no guarantees on which way things could turn out.

It all depends on what path we've chosen or "value fulfillment" we've agreed upon to re-initialize the experience of our connection to God or "All That Is".

Money is the Root of all Evil

Back in late 2004 I was on the verge of total financial breakdown. Not having worked for nearly 3 years I was totally broke. I had worked in the IT industry as a contractor that paid well when I had work. It had allowed me to buy my own house and furnish it with the things I previously only dreamed of HI-FI system, TV, DVD surround sound system, lush carpets etc...it was luxurious. It was also very quiet and peaceful surrounded by trees and overlooking a canal.

Looking back now I can see that the periods I spent, in between contracts, in my new environment unlocked a deeper spiritual awareness in me that previously had only occasionally surfaced.

I began to enjoy my quite periods of solitude and contemplation. I was able to search the internet and discover articles, books and CDs explaining and covering all aspects of this greater spiritual dimension I was experiencing. I quickly began to realise that my constant struggle to stay in the familiar "9-5" work environment was actually working against me as I tended to put on hold any new found realisations preferring instead, as a matter of practicality, to integrate myself into the day-day "reality" of work.

So it was in 2001 that I decided, with a friend of mine, to embark on a different way of working one that still would allow me to explore new awareness and spirituality as well as maintain the home I had recently purchased. Hence, Sekwa.com or my site for Internet Spiritual Marketing was born. Unfortunately, this never really became the monetary success we had hoped for and we soon disbanded and went our separate ways. He went back to full-time work while I struggled on still trying to make some success of it. However, nearly 3 years later, even I had to concede that it was not going to work.

It was at about this time I discovered some exciting new ideas about monetary beliefs. (I later discovered this was from T.Harv Ecker's - Secrets of the Millionaire Mind book)

I was given some typically held common beliefs about money which many of us have heard or been socially conditioned to accept. It was an opportunity to examine my own feelings towards these deeply ingrained beliefs:

"Money is the root of all evil."

"Save your money for a rainy day."

"Rich people are greedy."

"You have to work hard to make money."

"Money doesn't grow on trees."

"You can't be rich and spiritual."

"What am I made of.... money?"

"Money doesn't buy happiness."

"Money talks."

"The rich get richer and the poor get poorer."

"That's not for people like us."

And the "infamous"... "we can't afford it"

It was after identifying and examining my beliefs here that I quickly changed some of my thoughts about my relationship to wealth. I decided to record my own responses in "Factors influencing my wealth and monetary status".

It helped me change my career and by 2005 I got into "Web Testings" an aspect of web design that I had never really thought about but was now even more well paid than the IT support work I'd done earlier. I was now financially back on track and able to start building up my financial worth again.

Or so I thought...

All Limitations Are Perceived Horizons

Now I really liked this article by a favourite source of mine - David Cameron Gikandi - born in Kenya but living in Austrailia. His website "Images of One" I regularly featured in my spiritual marketing newsletters I reflected on in my last blog (Reflections: An Internet Spiritual Marketing Site)

I remember being heavily influenced by another article he wrote and distributed freely - "The New Thouthgt Manifesto"- which still provides a great introduction to many of the concepts and ideas about my world, your world, our world realities explored here.

This is a recurring theme I have come across in many of the enlightened descriptions of the way the world we inhabit functions. Again, it all comes down to beliefs and what we say, choose and then act out in accordance with those beliefs. It doesn't matter whether we are conscious of these or not as it is all about the energy of expression. A combined projection: Our Thoughts, Feelings and Actions.

Or as another of my favourite sources "Elias" would say:

...It is not a matter of what you THINK or BELIEVE!

It is a matter of an expressed belief and which influence of that expressed belief you are associating with...

As example: Here is a belief of my own, I identified, which I know is probably shared by a lot of people;

...What you believe, which is the influence, is that it is wrong for you to create your Reality...

Just one of many limitations I for one continue to express albeit, inadvertently! Still, Even now though I am beginning to accept and come to terms with this as I experience my own crossing of the horizon!

David Cameron Gikandi

Not so long ago, people thought the world was flat. They looked out into the horizon, and it appeared to them that the earth ended somewhere far out there, and at the end of the earth, one could possibly fall off the edge and die. Therefore, people did not dare to reach the horizon, for fear of falling off the end of the earth. So they stayed where they were.

Their perception that the world was flat, that it had an edge (the horizon), kept them from exploring far away from where they were born. It was a limitation that appeared real to them. However, this limitation was not real at all - it was an error in perception.

The horizon is not an edge, it is not an end.

In fact, you can never reach the horizon because it keeps moving farther away from you the closer you get to it. The horizon is an apparent end, yet it is grounded in infinity (you can never reach it).

All of your limitations are horizons. All of them bar none. No exception.

Even the Self has no limits, although it "appears" to be encompassed by a limited body. In fact, is the Self a reality, or simply an awareness of feeling? The Buddha argued that the Self is a feeling that gets mistaken for an identity (that which is 'having' the feeling). Anyways, that is another topic altogether. Let us get back to limitations...

Any limit that you think you have, whether it is financial, biological, emotional, or whatever, is a horizon. For example, you may have the belief that you cannot afford something, and so you forever deny yourself that thing; you never buy it. That is believing in the horizon. You believe you have limited funds and if you spent them on that thing, you would suffer and die or whatever.

However, if you went ahead and purchased it, you would find that you can indeed afford it, and because you have now created a new gap in your money, you would quickly fill that gap with even more money (so long as you don't believe you are limited). This is the difference between those who have scarcity (poverty) consciousness or beliefs, and those who believe in abundance.

So what is the solution to limitations?

It comes in two steps:

Step 1: Replace your perspective. As long as you think the world is flat and the horizon marks the edge of the world beyond which you will fall off, all other thoughts and actions will be in error. So you must train yourself to see the world a new way, to know that the horizon is an illusion. If you skip this step and jump straight into step two, you may burn your fingers because you cannot act as if you have abundance as long as you believe in scarcity. Your beliefs always become manifest. Thought is more powerful than action in creation.

Step 2: Act in line with abundance. In the above example, we saw that one who believes in abundance knows that the "limited" amount of money in their pocket is transitional, it is a river that flows and is hence not truly limited. But the one who believes in scarcity is convinced that they have a true limit and hence they don't dare cross is. So what does it mean to act in line with abundance? It means that you will be going beyond the horizon. You will march to it and keep moving, knowing that the horizon will never be reached. Know that all resources are cyclic in nature, so that the more you spend the more you earn, and the more you earn the more you spend. Keep that river flowing. Don't erect a dam or try to hold it. Keep it flowing. Open both hands wide, the hand that receives and the hand that gives. The faster your rate of exchange (giving and receiving) the better.

Horizons are a mindset. Poverty is a mindset. Wealth is a mindset. Happiness is a mindset. Depression is a mindset. Health is a mindset. Dis-ease is a mindset. It is all a mindset, with its accompanying emotions. The secret is that the mind is limitless, so you truly have no limits except those that you have accepted as real. It is all just a horizon, and no matter how much you chase the horizon, you will never fall off the end of the earth. So chase it!
